Materials:
• Paper grocery bags or construction paper
• Stapler
• Markers or crayons
• Stickers, glitter, ribbon, fabric, yarn, feathers
• Cupcakes

Directions:
For a young child, a birthday celebration is probably the most meaningful and enjoyable event of his/her year. When children think of birthdays, they usually think of presents, cake, party (games, decorations, hats).

To celebrate, why not have a class birthday party?
Make birthday hats out of construction paper or paper grocery bags. Help each child draw a hat shape on construction paper or a paper bag. Cut out the shape through two pieces of paper or both sides of the bag so that you have two pieces the same size.

Staple around the outside edge of the hat, leaving the bottom open. Adjust to fit
each child’s head. Children can decorate their hats using markers, crayons, stickers, scraps of paper, glitter, ribbon, fabric scraps, yarn, feathers, etc.

Next, children can make birthday cards.
Give each child a piece of paper. Fold paper in half and make a birthday card for a special friend or family member. Each child can print his own name and a greeting on the inside of the card. Children can wear their hats, sing “Happy Birthday,” and eat cupcakes for snack. It will be a celebration to remember!
